Women's Champions League Report: Wexford Youths 0 -6 Medyk Konin

Wexford Youths dream of playing UEFA Women's Champions League football were diminished this evening in Poland.
The Youths faced second seeds and hosts Medyk Konin in their second qualifier in three days. Heading into the game, both sides shared three points apiece after opening day wins. Medyk defeated Cardiff Met 5 - 1 in their first qualifier. Whereas, the Youths faced top seed Gintra Universitetas of Lithuania and recorded a 1 - 0 victory in their European debut, thanks to a Jessica Gleeson 30 yard free kick.
The Youths faced a tougher and more tactical side this evening in 30 degree heat and unluckily found themselves behind in the opening minutes. An unfortunate deflection from a defensive clearance was the result of the opening goal for Medyk on the fifth minute. As the Youth's defender aimed to clear the ball, it deflected off the incoming Katarzyna Daleszczyk and looped over the Youth's goalkeeper Mary Rose Kelly into the net. Medyk doubled their lead on the 18th minute, a slick cut back to the six yard box found Aleksandra Sikora.
The Youths were trailing 2 - 0 at half time and fought hard to keep out the danger from the impressive Medyk in the second half. Medyk continued to seek to extend their lead and came close on the 62nd minute when they hit the underside of the crossbar. However, the flood gates soon opened when Medyk added four to their scoreboard with goals by Agata Tarczynska, Katarzyna Daleszczyk and a brace by Patrycja Balcerzak.
The Youths are set to face Cardiff Met ladies in their final UEFA Women's Champions League qualifier game on Sunday at 4pm Irish time but with only one place available within each group. It appears unlikely for them to reach the Round of 32 draw this season.
Medyk Konin: Szymanska, Dudek (Pakulska 79′), Sikora, Nikolic, Slavcheva, Gawronska, Grad (Grzywinska 86′), Daleszczyk, Ficza, Tarczynska (Sturanovic 86′), Balcerzak.
Wexford Youths: Kelly, Gleeson, Fahy, Kennedy (c), O’Riordan (Cassin 78′), Breen (Murphy 39′), Rossiter, Hansberry, Frawley, Sinnott, Delahunty (Douglas 60′).
Bookings: Fahy (47), Cassin (89).
