Louise Quinn moves to Sweden

Twenty two year-old Irish international defender, Louise Quinn, has joined Eskilstuna United in the second tier of Swedish women’s football from Peamount United. The defender has 18 International caps to her name and was a part of the Peamount side that claimed the inaugural Women’s National League title in 2012.

Quinn describes the move as “the opportunity I’ve always wanted” and showed her gratitude to all at Peamount United, saying, “ Peamount has given me the opportunity to play football semi-professionally and it’s great to see the club continuing to build into the future.”

Quinn feels she has left the women’s game in Ireland in a far better state than when she made her first senior appearances at the age of 15. “It’s built up really well and it’s a case of so far so good with the National League. When I started playing matches were on Mondays and I would be trying to play senior football while preparing for exams on the Tuesday. We need to add teams to the League, definitely, but it has to be done gradually so as to not upset the balance.” 

Quinn is looking forward to moving on to pastures new, however, and can’t wait to get her season underway with the side from Eskilstuna, a city of 98,000 inhabitants not far from the capital Stockholm. “It’s one of the most well-organised, well-structured leagues in Europe, with a really professional set-up and training nearly every day.” Quinn has International Caps and Champions League experience which should help her in making the adjustment to a higher level of football. 

Quinn’s time at Peamount United has left her with one particularly unforgettable memory. She describes the squad as having “gone mad” in the dressing room after qualifying from the Champions League group stages.  It’s an achievement which will hopefully pave the way for future successes for Irish teams in the competition.
