All-Island Cup Preview: Bohemians -v- Lisburn

BOHEMIANS

Bohemians currently sit 4th in the Women’s Premier Division after two games as their attention turns to the visit of Lisburn Ladies to Dalymount Park at 3pm today for their opening fixture in the Women’s All-Island Cup.

The Gypsies suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend when they lost 1-0 To Athlone Town at Dalymount Park.

933 fans were treated to a very competitive half with Rachel Kelly making several excellent saves to keep the game scoreless. Bohs started to come into the game particularly towards the end of the half with Fiona Donnelly nearly catching Katie Keane in the Athlone goal off her line.

However, they could not break the deadlock and the teams went in at half time at 0-0. Bohemians continued to press forward in the second half with Orlagh Fitzpatrick missing a chance from a rebounded Lynn Craven shot which was as a good as a chance as the Gypsies would see for the whole game. Chloe Singleton got the goal for Athlone which would decide the game as Bohs were left to rue their missed chances.

Speaking to Bohemians media team about the game 16-year-old rising star Savannah Kane was keen to focus on the positives.

“Yeah, obviously the girls all tried their hardest. I came on in the 80th minute I think it was. Obviously, I want to take all the positives from that and bring it into the game on Sunday. So, hopefully we can build on the game on Saturday and just keep going.

“It is obviously nice to play against people who are not in your league. Hopefully we can take positives from Saturday and bring it into Sunday, and it will be a good game.”

LISBURN LADIES FC

Lisburn Ladies are looking to kick off their 2024 season with a win as they travel to Dalymount Park this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Lisburn will use this game and their other upcoming games in the Women’s All-Island Cup as preparation for the kick off the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership on Sunday May 5th when they will travel to Inver Park to play Larne Women.

The Antrim side finished sixth last season and in the off season have signed players such as Northern Ireland U19 international Rebecca Magee and Zoe Rodgers formerly of Crusaders as they attempt to challenge in both the league and perhaps even in the All-Island Cup.

MATCH STATS

Bohemians have only conceded one goal in their first two league games of the season. In last year’s All-Island Cup Bohs conceded four goals in their three games and failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

This will be Lisburn Ladies first ever appearance in the All-Island Cup as they aim to be first team from Northern Ireland to win the competition.
