Leeds United has announced the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Newcastle United.

The permanent deal is the second signing of the summer transfer window for Leeds United, following Ethan Ampadu.

Darlow, a seasoned 32-year-old goalkeeper, has agreed to a three-year contract with the club, extending until the summer of 2026.

Starting off in the youth ranks of Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, Darlow made his professional debut in a 3-0 Championship victory over Crystal Palace in May 2011.

He subsequently had loan spells with Newport County and Walsall before securing his position as a first-choice goalkeeper at the City Ground in January 2012.

His performances led to his recruitment by Premier League side Newcastle United in August 2014.

After 111 appearances and 35 clean sheets for Forest, he moved on to Newcastle, where he established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper during the 2016/17 Championship campaign.

His tenure with Newcastle witnessed 13 clean sheets in 34 league games, with the team ultimately being crowned Championship champions at the end of the season.

In January, Darlow joined Hull City on loan, making 12 appearances and securing five clean sheets.

Speaking to LUTV, Darlow expressed his excitement about joining Leeds United, saying, "It's really exciting. I’m delighted to be here, I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to join the group, start training and I’m looking forward to the new season."

Adding his thoughts on the move, he further noted, "It’s an exciting move with the new owners who are ambitious, the manager has a track record in this league and is someone I’ve been keen to work with and I want to try and help the club get back to the Premier League as soon as possible."

The experienced shot-stopper could make his full debut in next Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship opener against Cardiff City at Elland Road.
