Experienced defender Jonny Evans has officially signed a short-term contract with Manchester United, allowing him to participate in the club's upcoming pre-season matches in Edinburgh and San Diego.

Evans, a graduate of the Manchester United Academy, has been training with the Under-21s while exploring his options after leaving Leicester City at the end of the previous season.

During his time with the Academy training program, Evans has also joined several first-team sessions, making a positive impression on manager Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff.

With his signing, Evans will travel to Edinburgh as part of the group set to face Lyon on Wednesday. Afterward, he will join the Academy squad on their trip to San Diego while the first-team squad heads to New York.

Having previously played 198 matches for the Manchester United first team, Evans departed the club in 2015.

During his tenure, he achieved remarkable success, including winning the Champions League, the Club World Cup, three Premier League titles, and two League Cups.

Unfortunately, fellow defenders Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett have suffered injuries, ruling them out of the Lyon game and the Tour 2023 in the United States.

The remaining players will continue their training at Carrington on Wednesday before embarking on their journey to New York.
