Chelsea's 20-year-old striker, David Fofana, has confirmed a season-long loan move to Union Berlin, a top-flight Bundesliga club.

Fofana joined Chelsea in January from Norwegian club Molde and made his debut against Manchester City in the FA Cup, soon after joining.

He also made several appearances in the Premier League. This move will see the Ivory Coast international continue his development with Union, marking an exciting opportunity as the club will compete in the Champions League for the first time in its history.

Upon confirming his move, Fofana expressed his enthusiasm for joining Union Berlin.

"Union have developed extremely strongly in the last few years and it excites me a lot to be a part of this in the coming season,” he said.

“The club has made a long and hard effort to sign me and now I want to repay that with good performances."

Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s managing director of men's professional football, sees great potential in Fofana, particularly for his versatile offensive qualities.

"David's speed and his flexible offensive qualities are highly interesting for us,” said Ruhnert.

“We want another goal-scoring player who will give our attacking game additional impetus."
