Arsenal's 20-year-old midfielder Catalin Cirjan is headed to FC Rapid Bucuresti on a season-long loan.

The Romanian Liga 1 team managed to secure the deal with an option to purchase the player at the end of the 2023/2024 season.

After joining the academy in July 2019 from Viitorul Domnesti, Cirjan showed a promising performance during the 2022/23 season.

He made 23 appearances across all competitions for the academy and scored three goals. In addition, his progress landed him a spot in the club's matchday Europa League squad on four occasions.

Speaking about the move, Cirjan shared his enthusiasm.

"It was a long-awaited transfer for me...The first thing that motivated me to choose to come to Rapid was the match I played against Rapid in the Romanian Cup when I was 14 years old."

He mentioned that he had other offers but chose Rapid Bucuresti after discussions with his family, agent, and the Rapid staff.

Recognizing the opportunity to work with the Romanian legend Adrian Mutu, Cirjan highlighted that he's excited and ready for the challenge.

Cirjan has clear objectives for his tenure at Rapid, one of which is clinching the title.

"I came here with very big goals. I want to help the team with everything I can, I will give everything on the field and, at the end of the season, I hope to bring the title," he asserted.

Arsenal expressed well wishes for Cirjan's journey ahead, stating on www.arsenal.com, "We wish Catalin all the best with FC Rapid Bucuresti this coming season and look forward to watching his continued development."
