FAI Cup Replay Preview: Cork City -v- Derry City

Having drawn 1-1 in the Brandywell Friday night, Peter Hutton and his men make the long trip down to Turners Cross for the replay of this FAI Irish Daily Mail Cup Quarter Final between the Candystrips and the Rebel Army in a make or break game for both sides.

 

CORK CITY

Cork will be the happier of the two sides with the draw, seeing as Derry now have to make the long trip down twice in the month of September.

 

With Dundalk having the title more or less wrapped up, this will be Corks last hope of silverware this season.

 

Since having won promotion back to the First Division in 2011, Cork haven’t had the greatest history in Ireland’s oldest cup competition, getting knocked out of the cup in the last 16 on the last three occasions.

 

The Leesiders will be without John Kavanagh and Colin Healy for the game through injury, and will also be missing Steven Beattie and Stephen Folan due to being cup tied by Sligo Rovers earlier on in the competition. Alan Bennett, Darren Dennehy, Dan Murray, Mark O’Sullivan and Karl Sheppard are all doubts.



 

 

DERRY CITY

The Candystrips have had a great history in the cup in the last few seasons, winning the competition in 2012, and also lost last season’s final against St Pats both times.

 

Derry are fighting for their lives, as they strive to try and pull clear of Sligo Rovers in 11th, who they are currently only a point a head of.



 

Derry have been in poor league form going into this game, losing two of their last three matches although Mark O’Sullivan’s goal against them was the first goal they conceded in this seasons competition.

 

Conor McCormack (injured) and Philip Lowry (suspended) both missed the game on Friday night, but Ciaran O’Connor will defiantly be out of the game on Monday, as he is cup tied.

MATCH FACTS

The last time these two met in Turners Cross, Cork City came out 3-0 winners. Karl Sheppard scored a brace that night with John O’Flynn grabbing the other goal.

 

Cork City have won this competition only twice (1998, 2007) in their 31 year history, whereas Derry have won this competition a total of five time (1988–89, 1994–95, 2002, 2006 and 2012).
