Patrick McEleney busy with Bees trial

England could be Derry City striker Patrick McEleney's next port of call according to media reports in Derry today.

According to the Londonderry Sentinel, the 22-year-old is due to travel to London this Saturday where he will begin a week-long trial with Championship side Brentford.

McEleney, who chipped in with eight goals from midfield for the Candystripes last year, was rumoured to have been attracting interest from Celtic during the course of last season along with MK Dons in more recent times. However, having been impressed by the former Sunderland trainee, Bees boss Mark Warburton is also keen on running the rule over McEleney more closely.

McEleney will become the second member of Peter Hutton's squad to go on trial with a cross-channel club this month with midfield starlet Michael Duffy currently being given the chance to impress at Celtic.

Duffy has certainly went the right way about winning a contract with the Bhoys so far having netted a brace in a 3-1 win for their U21s over a Newcastle United second string that contained Dutch international netminder Tim Kruhl.

Meanwhile, the future of McEleney's teammate and older brother Shane remains up in the air. Along with marksman Rory Patterson, the 23-year-old defender is currently on the Brandywell outfit's transfer list and is seemingly on the radar of a number of Premier Division clubs.

Sligo Rovers and Galway United are believed to have made approaches for the 2012 FAI Cup winner along with Shamrock Rovers and Limerick, both of whom are said to have received permission to speak with the player, but speculation over a move to St. Patrick's Athletic has intensified recently with young Saints defensive prospect Sean Hoare being the subject of interest from Hull City.
