O'Sullivan - It's the best day of my life

DENISE O’SULLIVAN has hailed reaching the last eight of the Champions League as the best moment of her life.

The Ireland and Glasgow City midfielder was inspirational at the heart of Eddie Wolecki-Black’s midfield yet again as she helped her side overcome a 2-1 first leg defeat to go through.

The former Cork star was clearly still on cloud nine as she spoke following the match saying: “It’s absolutely impossible to describe. It is the best day of my life. I just have to take it all in. I’m only 20 years old and I’m getting into the quarter finals of the Champions League, it’s something that I will always treasure and it’s something that I’m happy to be part of and get this club there.”

O’Sullivan won the penalty that led to the second goal after a darting run through the defence and refused to say she wants in the next round insisting that the club are just looking forward to it.

She said: “We’ll face whoever we get. The quarter final of the Champions League is obviously going to be very tough but we’re in it, we’re going to work towards and we’re going to try out best to get a good result out of it.”

O’Sullivan was also quick to commit her future to the club with the current season coming to an end and the possibility of City’s star players being snapped up as they have been before but any fears from fans that the midfielder may be one of those heading for the exit door were quashed by the talented 20-year-old.

She said: “I would never miss a quarter final of the Champions League. It’s something I’ve dreamed of getting to and I’ve always wanted it. We’ve finally done it and I’m absolutely over the moon.”

City’s season comes to a close in a Scottish Cup final clash with Spartans on Sunday. Spartans are the only team to beat City this season when a 1-0 win inflicted City’s first league defeat on five years on them and O’Sullivan is confident she and her teammates will have their feet on the ground and be ready for the final.

She said: “I think it’s good for us because we’re all going to be absolutely buzzing for it [the final] so after tonight we’re straight back into training tomorrow and we’ve one more job to do and that’s to win the final and do the treble again because that would be an incredible achievement so we’ll try and forget about tonight and just work towards that.”
