League Report: Bohs 2 - 1 Bray Wanderers

Despite a late Eoin Wearen red card, Bohemians held on to record a 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers at Dalymount Park which effectively sees Owen Heary’s side safe of any relegation trouble this season.

An early strike from Dinny Corcoran followed up by Jason Byrne’s goal 10 seconds into the second half have Bohs their 4th win in a row at home.

The home side started brightly and effectively controlled the game from start to finish and it only took ten minutes to open the scoring. Dinny Corcoran had a couple of simple chances before taking one at the third attempt. A long punt up field wasn’t dealt with by the Bray defence. They made the schoolboy error of letting the ball bounce allowing the former UCD man to steal in behind and head the ball over the on rushing Stephen McGuinness.

Jason Byrne was in superb form and some of his touches were rolling back the years as he and Corcoran were playing off each other well. The latter had more chances to double the Gypsies lead but he failed to do so. But they didn’t have to wait long to get that all important second goal.

Straight from the kick off, Kevin Devaney ran at the Bray back four to pull back for Corcoran who’s goalbound shot was finished off by Jason Byrne who moves 1 goal closer to the all-time goal scoring record in the League of Ireland.

The visitors poured forward in search of a route back into the game leaving gaps at the back and Bohs had a few chances to kill them off. But Alan Mathews’ troops found their lifetime through an own goal. Jake Kelly was their brightest spark all night and he created the goal. He put a corner in that Dean Delany pushed onto the post. The danger wasn’t cleared and when the ball found its way back to Kelly, his cross was cleared against Dave Mulcahy and into the back of the net.

In this situation recently, Bohs would have crumbled but with home wins under their belt they seen it through with relative ease despite a late red card for Eoin Wearen when the former West Ham midfielder kicked out at David Webster.
