Brian Gartland joins Dundalk

Dundalk FC have been busy in the transfer market once again as they have confirmed the arrival of centre-half Brian Gartland.

Gartland has been available since his contract with Portadown expired recently has chosen to sign for Stephen Kenny despite interest from other League of Ireland clubs.

With only one natural centre-half at Oriel Park, Gartland is a welcome addition to the Lilywhites who currently sit in fourth place in the league table with 14 games to go. The former Monaghan United star is expected to go straight into the squad for Friday evening’s match against Bohemians.

The 26 year-old has decided to return to the league of Ireland following a two and a half year spell in the North having previously played for Bray Wanderers, Shelbourne and Monaghan United in his first stint in the Airtricity League.

The Dublin native is Dundalk’s third signing of the July transfer window as he follows midfielder Jordan Keegan, who arrived from St. Patrick’s Athletic, and Francis McCaffrey, who came in from Hull City, in the door at Oriel Park.

Meanwhile it has been confirmed that left-back Eoghan Osborne and forward Sami Osobe have both left the club by mutual consent.
