Malmo delighted to return to Ireland

Per Agren, the Sporting Director of Malmo FF, was in Nyon for Monday’s Europa’s League and in the aftermath of the event expressed his delight to be facing Mick Cooke’s men in the first qualifying round.

“We are very much looking forward to coming to Ireland again. We were there last year [to play] a friendly game against Shamrock Rovers who we made contact with when they were in the Group stages of the Europa League the year before.”

In November of 2011, when Rovers were out of season but still had European games left to play, Malmo stepped into the breach to offer the Tallaght side an invaluable friendly. Last July the Swedes travelled to West Dublin for a return game, cementing the good relations that had been forged the previous winter. But Per was too polite to say that this familiarity with the Tallaght venue might benefit his side.

“Well, at least we know what it looks like”, he said. “If it’s going to be a help or not, we have to wait and see. It’s pretty convenient to come to Ireland compared to many places we could have ended up in. We very much liked our stay in Dublin”, he added, “and we very much look forward to coming again”.
