About Ian Foster

Ian Foster arrived in Galway after the appointment of Jeff Kenna as manager. As a player Foster enjoyed moderate success as a striker in the lower leagues, winning two Conference titles with Chester City and Kidderminster Harriers, where he enjoys legendary status. He was also employed as the club physio and assistant manager.

Foster was appointed manager of the Galway in January 2009 following the departure of previous boss Jeff Kenna to St Patrick's Athletic. At the end of the 2009 season he took up the manager's position at Dundalk, replacing Sean Connor who would soon move in the opposite direction.

Ian held the reins at Oriel Park for two seasons, leading the Lilywhites to 6th place in the Premier Division in 2010. In 2011 he led the club to the Setanta Cup final where they were beaten 2-0 by Shamrock Rovers. The league proved a tougher proposition that year. Despite a promising start, Dundalk suffered a mid-season collapse and, despite something of a late rally, they finished 7th.

Ian was not retained by the club board and left Dundalk at the end of the 2011 season.
