About Gerard Doherty
Gerard began his career at Derry City in 1998/99 and made his debut as a 16 year old against Sligo Rovers in a League Cup tie. In february 1999 he signed for English side Derby County where he remained until the summer of 2001.
In November 2001 Ger signed for Welsh side New Saints. He spent six seasons there, making 233 league appearances and winning three league titles and one Welsh Cup. He also took part in European competition, playing in ties against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Ger returned to Derry City in January of 2008 and made 30 league appearances in his first season back. He added 35 more league appearances in 2009 and stayed with the club when financial collapse forced them to regroup in the First Division in 2010.
Derry claimed the First Division title in 2010 and Ger made 31 league appearances along the way. And as the club returned to premier Division football in 2011 Ger played in all 36 of the club's league games.
