John Russell - St. Patrick's Ath
About John Russell
Capped at U19 level for the Republic of Ireland, John played with Salthill Devon before starting his League of Ireland career at Galway United in 2003. He spent three seasons at Terryland Park but in 2006 he made just 5 league appearances before taking some time out from football.
In December 2006, manager Tony Cousins convinced John to re-sign for Galway United for the 2007 season. Over the next three years John made a further 69 league appearances for the Tribesman.
At the start of 2010 John signed for Paul Cook at Sligo Rovers and made 20 league appearances, scoring three goals, to help the Bit O' Red to 3rd place in the Premier Division. John also won an FAI Cup winners medal as Sligo beat Shamrock Rovers in a penalty shootout after the first final at the new Aviva Stadium had ended scoreless after extra time. In 2011 John made a further 34 league appearances, scoring four goals as Sligo finished runners up in the League and he won a second FAI Cup medal as Sligo defeated Shelbourne after penalties.
John left Sligo at the end of 2011 and signed for Liam Buckley at St Patrick's Athletic in January 2012. He made his club debut on the opening night of the 2012 season against Bray Wanderers and made 19 league appearances, also appearing in the club's FAI Cup final defeat to Derry City.
