Sean McCaffrey - Dundalk
About Sean McCaffrey
As a player Sean lined out for his local side Monaghan Town before heading across the water to play for leicester City. However, he failed to make the grade in England and soon returned home where he played a role in the formation of Monaghan United.
Sean managed Monaghan in the years prior to their election to the League of Ireland in 1985. Though he was in England during the club's debut league season he did return to take up the managerial reins before a falling out led to his departure from the club and his setting up of local youths side Oriel Celtic.
In 1999 Sean began working with the FAI and in 2001 he was brought onto the coaching team with the Republic of Ireland under-age teams. He spent seven years coaching the U17s and U19s and in 2006 he was awarded the FAI Special Merit award for his services to the national side.
In January 2012 Sean was appointed as manager of Dundalk in the wake of Ian Foster's departure at the end of the previous season.
