David’s Biography
David began his career in Ireland with local team Cambridge, before moving on to Home Farm. From there he transferred to Derby County in July of 2002 before returning home to sign for Pat Scully at Kilkenny City in July 2005.
When Scully took over the reins at newly relegated Shamrock Rovers in 2006 he took David with him. He spent two years at Rovers and played in all but three of the their league matches as they took the 2006 First Division title by a point from Dundalk.
David then helped the Hoops to a fifth place finish in the Premier Division the following season before signing for Dundalk prior to the start of the 2008 season. He made his competitive debut for the Louth club away to Shelbourne on 7 March 2008, and scored his first goal for the Lillywhites in the 3-0 home win over Monaghan United six days later. Dundalk went on to win the First Division title that year but new manager Sean Connor cleared out the title winning side for the club's return to the top flight and David moved on, signing for Shelbourne ahead of the 2009 season.
David made his competitive debut for the Reds on March 6th against Wexford Youths in Tolka Park. He made just 6 league appearances that year but in 2010 he made 27 league starts, scoring six goals, and won both the Supporters’ and the players’ Player of the Year awards. In 2011 the Dublin born player scored 15 times in 30 league appearances as Shels won promotion to the Premier Division, also captaining his side in their FAI Cup Final defeat by Sligo Rovers at the Aviva Stadium.
The following season David made a further 25 league appearances as Shelbourne finished a solid 8th in the Premier Division but in November 2012 David ended his four season stay at Tolka Park and signed for Mick Cooke at Drogheda United. He made 27 league appearances for the Drogs in what was a disappointing Premier Division campaign but also played in both legs of their Europa League tie against Swedish side Malmo FF. David also appeared in three Cup finals in 2013 as the Drogs lost out in the deciders of the Setanta Cup, the EA Cup and the FAI Cup.
In January 2014 David signed for Alan Mathews at Bray Wanderers where he netted four goals in 30 league appearances for the seaside club. Dave stayed with the Seagulls for the 2015 season and made twenty-seven league appearances, scoring six times in the process, as Bray finished eighth in the Premier Division. He was also the caretaker manager on two occasions, for the 4-2 defeat to Drogheda United in May after Maciej Tarnogrodzki stepped down before also being in the dugout for the 1-0 over Limerick in July after Trevor Croly stepped down.
David left Bray at the end of the season and appeared on trial for Athlone Town in their match against St Pats in February 2016. Soon after, David signed for the Midlands club for the First Division campaign. He went on to make 10 league appearances for the club, scoring twice in the process, before leaving Athlone in June 2016.
Having left league football David played in the LSL with St Patrick's CYFC in 2016/17 and scored in their Leinster Senior Cup defeat to league champions Dundalk in February 2017.
