Mauro’s Biography

Mauro started his career with top Portuguese side FC Porto, where he failed to make a first team appearance, before moving to Estrela Amadora, staying there for two seasons. He then left to join Dutch side FC Zwolle in January 2004, where he made 84 appearances and scored 8 goals.

In 2006 he moved on to play for Bulgarian top division club Vihren Sandanski and although he was released by Vihren after just 22 league appearances, he was soon spotted by Accrington shortly during a mid-season training camp in Spain.

He made just 5 league appearances for Stanley and moved on at the end of the 2006/07 season. By August 2007 Mauro had signed up with Swindon Town and he stayed at the County Ground until February of 2008 at which point he came to Ireland to join Paul Cook at Sligo Rovers.

On 27th February 2008, Sligo Rovers announced the signing of Almeida after a short trial with the club. Mauro made 30 league appearances and scored five goals but, midway through the following season, in June 2009, he left Sligo. However he returned in February 2010 and made six more appearances, scoring one goal, before a serious injury against St Patrick's Athletic ended his season. At the close of 2010 Mauro was released.
