Willie John’s Biography

Willie John is a striker who spent two seasons at SPL side Aberdeen before returning to Ireland in July 2007 to sign for Waterford United, preferring his hometown club on Suirside to Drogheda United who were also chasing him.

He made 17 league appearances over the latter half of '07 and scored twice. Over the next four seasons he added a further 110 league appearances for the Blues and scored 40 league goals. On 13 December 2011, Kiely signed a contract extension to remain at the club for another year but 2012 was a frustrating season and Willie scored just twice in his 11 league appearances, leaving the club at the end of the season to join local side Tramore AFC.

In January 2014 Willie returned to Waterford colours and he scored four times in 20 league appearances for the Blues as they finished seventh in the First Division table. In 2015 Willie managed to hit the back of the net on 5 occasions as he made 13 appearances during the First Division season. He left the club at the end of the season.
