Stephen’s Biography
Stephen started his career at St. Patrick's Athletic, making his one and only league appearance for the club in a 2-0 loss to Shamrock Rovers in April 2004. He then joined Sheffield United in 2005 and went on to make over two hundred league appearances for the club across the Premiership and Championship, as well as having loan spells with the MK Dons and Rotherham United.
In August 2013, Stephen joined Championship side Hull City and was nearly ever-present as Hull were promoted to the Premier League in his first season, making forty-two league appearances. He then made more than forty appearances across the next two seasons before signing for Reading in June 2015 after his contract had expired. In January 2021, Stephen signed on loan with Mansfield from his parent club Burton Albion which who he had already made 22 appearances in League One during the 2020/2021 season.
Stephen has previously been called up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad, and ahead of the 2016 European Championship, he has 14 caps to his name.
