Wexford Youths have announced that they will play English League Two side Bradford City in a summer friendly this July.
Shane Keegan’s men will welcome the League Two side to Ferrycarrig Park on Tuesday 24 July for an 8pm kick-off. Bradford will also play Bray Wanderers the following Saturday. Speaking about their trip to Ireland, Bradford manager Phil Parkinson pointed out that the Airtricity League’s summer season was one of the main attractions.
"Ireland will be in the middle of their own football season by the time we arrive, so both teams will be match-fit and will present us with a meaningful challenge.
"With these pre-season games being some of the first in our pre-season schedule, it will be an ideal opportunity for me and the coaching team to assess the capabilities of the squad following their summer break.”
The Bantams competed in the Premier League as recently as 2001 but the only major honour that the club have won was an FA Cup triumph in 1911 when they defeated Newcastle United 1-0 after a replay.
