Joe Hanrahan gave College the lead with four minutes to go at half time. Rovers equalised through Jacko McDonagh from the spot with twenty-one minutes remaining. A lengthy break in play due to an injury to UCD keeper Alan O’Neill was to be to their advantage as Ken O’Doherty swooped for a dramatic winner six minutes into injury time. It was UCD’s first and only FAI Cup trophy.
