The Extratime.ie Sportscast Episode 126 - Kenny Shiels - Amber Barrett

It's a League Cup special on the Extratime.ie Sportcast this week as we welcome on Derry City manager Kenny Shiels and Peamount United striker Amber Barrett.

Host Declan Marron and pundit Dave Donnelly ruminate as usual on the week's major topics including the Harry Arter/Stephen Ward row and the exciting First Division run-in.

Candystripes boss Shiels speaks about Sunday's EA Sports Cup final meeting with Cobh Ramblers in front of their own fans at the refurnished Brandywell.

The League Cup's most successful-ever side have an opportunity to mark the first season back at their iconic home by lifting silverware in front of a hometown crowd.

Shiels also speaks about the club's development focus during a week that's seen Ronan Curtis called up to the senior Ireland squad three months after leaving Derry for Portsmouth.

He discusses how losing players like Curtis to professional teams abroad is bearable - but losing the likes of Patrick McEleney and Barry McNamee to league rivals is what really riles him.

Also on the show is Republic of Ireland international and Peamount goalscorer Barrett ahead of her side's Women's National League Cup final date with Wexford Youths on Saturday.

Barrett is locked in a direct battle with her international teammate Rianna Jarrett for the top scorer this season (Barrett has 21 to Jarrett's 25) - and they happen to be on opposing sides this weekend.

The Donegal native also speaks about her dual-code background, having played intercounty gaelic football, and her life outside sport as she pursues a master's degree in education.

She talks about the influence international manager Colin Bell has had and how their recent upturn in form bodes well, and her own ambitions of playing professional football in the future.
