FAI to support Aleksander Ceferin for UEFA Presidency

The Board of the Football Association of Ireland confirmed today that it intends to back Aleksander Ceferin in the race to become the next UEFA President.

The Association moved to back the Head of the Slovenian FA for next month's election, to find a successor to former President Michel Platini.

Mr Ceferin is a leading candidate in September's elections and FAI CEO John Delaney said that he is the preferred candidate for the FAI to take over European football's governing body.

"I have seen first hand the great work that Aleksander has done for football and we have been very impressed with him so far," said Delaney.

"I believe that he has all the attributes to bring and create the perfect balance to bring UEFA forward.

"He has been a very progressive and extremely innovative leader in his native Slovenia and his successful candidacy would be a very positive move for European football and the administration as a whole."

The election for UEFA President will take place in Athens, Greece on September 14.
