Watch: Saints bow out of the Europa League with narrow Minsk loss

St Patrick's Athletic bowed out of the Europa League at the Third Qualifying Round stage after suffering the narrowest of defeats to Dinamo Minsk at Richmond Park.

The Saints took a slight advantage into the tie, having scored a potentially vital away goal in Minsk as Christy Fagan's second-half strike helped them to a 1-1 draw.

However Pats were always likely to need to score – having kept a clean sheet in just one of their last 15 European games – and so it proved when Gleb Rassadkin stabbed home after 20 minutes.

Liam Buckley's side had chances of their own – both Billy Dennehy and Graham Kelly shot from distance in the first half, and Dennehy was close to latching on to his brother Darren's header after the break – but ultimately they couldn't find the necessary goal to take it to extra time.

Buckley conceded after the game that the first goal was crucial, and Pats' failure to secure it made it an uphill battle they would have needed an element of luck to win.

St Patrick's Athletic goalkeeper Brendan Clarke reflected on the European experience on this week's Extratime.ie Sportcast here.
