Watch: Goal-line drama at Tolka as Shels edge out Cabo

The less-publicised of this weekend's SSE Airtricity League Dublin derbies saw Shelbourne host Cabinteely in the First Division on Saturday evening.

An own goal from Oscar Brennan and James English's eighth of the season gave Shels a 2-0 half time lead before Cabo's Mark Slater gave the visitors some hope with a fine strike 20 minutes from time.

However it was Brennan's unfortunate opener that was to provide the game's flashpoint. There were just 15 minutes on the clock when the midfielder played a ball back to goalkeeper Michael Kelly, who misjudged and had to scramble to prevent it from crossing his goal-line.

That the former Shamrock Rovers B stopper thought he'd done, but referee David Keeler said otherwise after his linesman decided the ball had crossed the line before Kelly kicked it clear.

It was a gutsy call from the assistant referee, who appeared to have been in line with the edge of the 18-yard box at the decisive moment.

It mirrored an incident two weeks ago when Bray Wanderers played Wexford Youths at the Carlisle Grounds, and the referee's assistant ruled Karl Moore's header had crossed the line before Graham Doyle clawed it to safety.

Bray were involved in another such event last season when their FAI Cup Third Round game at Dalymount Park was decided on an official's call after Bohemians' Dean Delany appeared to drop the ball behind the line.
